CMSS 3D Specifications

CMSS 3D is a virtual surround sound technology ….

A Difference in Approach

Dolby’s entry into the computer audio arena is one that’s intended to use the hardware strength of a computer system to reproduce as closely as possible the sound editor’s intentions. The combination of hardware, driver and speakers is meant to match the editor’s preferred setup, whether it be in stereo or 7.1 surround. While CMSS 3D provides surround sound capabilities for your system as well, the approach is directed towards creating an audio experience that widely differs from the editor’s intended creation. The CMSS 3D solution is geared towards improving an audio stream to match the extensive setups of those users with a surround sound system, rather than recreating an intended result. However, while upmixing can create a virtual surround sound experience, it cannot add the subtle nuances added by editors who intended a surround sound audio stream.
