DTS has announced an enhanced featureset for PC audio chips that license their technology. The new DTS Premium Suite II includes:
– DTS Clear Voice: Noise suppression and echo cancellation for voice-over-IP and video conferencing applications.
– DTS Clear Audio: Noise compensation technology to intelligently boost frequencies that may be drowned out by outside noise.
– DTS Audio Restoration: Enhancement technology that seeks to restore compressed audio to the quality of the original source.
– DTS Enhance: Augments the low and high frequencies of compressed audio to improve the perceived quality of lossy compressed audio at lower bit rates.
These features are currently available in an all-in-one Onkyo PC on display at their booth as well as in select Realtek audio codecs.
It’s great to see DTS focus on a market that has lagged so far behind the rest of the CE market when it comes to audio quality. While consumers carefully examine video card performance when buying a new PC, audio performance is rarely even considered. This typically results in a consumer having a brand new computer with a $300 video card and a sub $2 audio card.
The demonstration I heard sounded great and I look forward to seeing (hearing?) this product suite find its way into more products.
