3D is the new trend which is in its infancy in the smartphone world and pioneers with their smartphones like the Sharp Lynx 3D, LG Optimus 3D and HTC EVO 3D are already testing the market feedback for such technology.
Nokia went one step beyond and is working on an “autostereoscopic rendering and display apparatus”, according to the patent filing. It’s basically a flip-open device which features two screens, one of which 3D and the other 2D. It would also feature a bunch of cameras to monitor eye and finger movement in order to adjust the projected 3D image for best appearance and to figure out your hand’s position in relation to that.
The second, 2D screen could be able to even display a shadow of the projected image so that the experience of a projected 3D image is as good as it gets. Whether this will ever see the light of day or it’s just Nokia engineers at work is hard to tell but we’re definitely heading down that road fast!
