I’m not into remote controlled models, so you’ll have to excuse me if I’m not too knowledgeable on that topic, however there is something interesting happening for those of you that might like to fly a R/C plane or a helicopter. Apparently the latest update for the popular Reflex XTR2 R/C Flight Simulator software version 5.05.5 adds support for flying training in stereoscopic 3D mode, making the simulation more realistic as you can see in the video, unfortunately only available in anaglyph mode, the video, not the software. So if you want to learn how to pilot a remote controller model then this simulator in stereo 3D mode is pretty much the closest thing to the real model for learning to pilot without having to worry about crashing the expensive helicopter or plane.
Apparently the software flight simulator supports two different Stereoscopic 3D modes: either using red/cyan anaglyph glasses (a pair is included with the simulator), or using active 3D shutter glasses. Note that for the 3D shutter glasses mode you’ll be required the use a 120Hz 3D display and NVIDIA-compatible graphics card, along with the 3D Vision shutter glasses. The anaglyph mode can either be used for free with the 3D Vision Discover mode or the iZ3D Driver that also comes with free anaglyph mode on practically any normal monitor, however you might also be able to use the iZ3D driver or DDD’s TriDef software along with the Reflex XTR2 flight simulator in order to make it work with passive polarized glasses for example.
Unfortunately I could not find a demo version to try it out and buying it just to test the stereo 3D support sounds a bit unreasonable, so anyone using the software is welcome to share his experience flying in stereoscopic 3D mode… 😉
