Sales of FPD (flat panel display) TVs in the China market in 2012, due to the impact of European financial troubles and approaching to market saturation in large cities, will grow slowly to a projected sales volume of 39.9 million TVs, according to China-based All View Consulting (AVC).
The projected sales volume of FPD TVs in the China market in 2012 will grow from 2011 by 9.1%, lower than 10.6% in 2011, nearly 40% in 2010, nearly 90% in 2009 and 60% in 2008, AVC indicated.
The growth in 2012 will hinge on China government’s continued promotion of energy-saving electric appliances and sales promotion on the occasion of the 2012 London Olympic Games, AVC pointed out.
Due to China government’s trial broadcast of 3D channels and continued drops in price of 3D TV models, 3D TV penetration of all FPD TVs in the China market rose from 1% in early 2011 to 21% at the end of the year and is expected to further rise to 40% in 2012, AVC noted.
As for connected TVs, penetration hiked from 20-30% to 40% in 2011, with smart TVs accounting for 30% of all connected TVs, AVC indicated.
Of all FPD TVs sold in the fourth quarter of 2011, 58% were of LED-backlit models and the percentage is expected to rise to 71% in 2012 if the China government smoothly implements policies of energy-saving subsidies, AVC pointed out.
China-based vendors have increasingly dominated the China market of FPD TVs, especially in rural area markets, with combined market share climbing to over 80% in the fourth quarter of 2011, AVC indicated.
