Demand for 3D TVs in the China market is expected to grow by 150% to 20 million units in 2012, accounting for 48% of total TV sales in China in the year, according to industry sources.
Sales of TVs totaled about 38 million units in China in 2011, of which eight million units were 3D models, the sources noted.
China-based branded vendors such as TCL and Lenovo, while highlighting their smart TV technologies at CES 2012, also unveiled some new 3D TV models at the trade fair, indicated the sources.
Although the recent inauguration of 3D TV broadcasting in China is positive to the promotion of the segment, the requirement for wearing 3D glasses for most prevailing 3D models available in China may weaken market demand for 3D TVs, commented the sources.
